As Managing Director of Sony UK Technology Centre in Pencoed, Steve has overall responsibility for the manufacturing facility producing HD Broadcast and Professional camera systems worldwide.
The factory is also the home to Sony’s main UK customer service centre, manufacturer’s products for third party customers and houses 36 start-up companies in on site Business Incubation Centre.
Appointed Managing Director of the Sony UK Technology Centre in 2006, he has been a key figure in the transition of the business from a single source producer to a self-contained diverse business unit, producing high value-added products for a global customer base, creating and sustaining competitive operations in Wales.
He has spent his entire career with Sony, joining the corporation in 1983 as an electronics graduate at the then Bridgend facility, as test jig designer. He moved to Pencoed when the site first opened in 1992, and supported the start-up of the new TV manufacturing facility.
As General Manager, Steve managed all new TV product introductions through all manufacturing processes. From there he led the site’s new business start-ups in digital set-top receivers and, in 1999/2000, the introduction of broadcast and professional camera manufacturing for worldwide distribution.
In 2003 he was appointed Director of Operational Management, his main role covering both the Bridgend and Pencoed sites, overseeing the diversification of the business to ensure the sustainability.
Steve is a member of the Institute of Directors and has also been appointed Chartered Director in 2010. He is the chartered director ambassador for Wales, a board member of Industry Wales since 2014 and supports the Wales Education recovery boards. He was made an honorary fellow of University of Glamorgan and Bridgend College in 2013.
