We provide an educationally outstanding experience for our students. As an institution of enterprise, research and learning, we have unrivalled skills in working with business, collaborating with businesses and organisations, of all sizes and sectors, to make a better future for Wales and the world.

As a leading, research-intensive University, Cardiff is committed to converting the outcomes of our research into commercially viable products and processes. This relies on excellent infrastructure and, in many cases, highly specialised facilities – from environmental characterisation labs and performance engineering, to biotechnology services and brain imaging; to gas turbine combustors, and lightning laboratories.

Our technologies are often “spun-out” into commercial ventures through a partnership with IP Group Plc, which, since 2007, has enabled more than £50m to be invested in Cardiff University spinouts, establishing an exciting portfolio of companies including Mesuro, Alesi Surgical and MedaPhor; with further prospects in the pipeline.

Cardiff University’s Innovation Network connects academics to business, via a series of free events, providing the opportunity to work together; exchange new ideas; share knowledge and develop innovative methods. Whether it’s short consultancy or long-term strategic projects, collaborations can be tailor-made to meet specific business needs. Interactions can range from Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP’s), or designing innovative new products,  to transforming business operations. As the largest provider of adult education in Wales, the University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning provides several hundred courses as well as CPD for business people via bespoke programmes.

Close links with employers – student project and placement opportunities – along with an extremely high quality learning environment, enable students to develop transferable business skills. Our award-winning student enterprise team help students to enhance their entrepreneurial skills through events and competitions, with business skills more formally adopted into the University via our “enterprise and innovation in the curriculum” scheme.
